Welcome to Hawkins!

Dear Parents or Guardian,

Hi, my name is Nicholas Chernich, and I am the music teacher here at Hawkins Elementary School. Before teaching in Brighton, I taught general music at St. Patrick School in White Lake. I have also taught in West Branch, Michigan and in Lake Linden, Michigan located in the Upper Peninsula. My wife Bethany also teaches music at Hornung Elementary in Brighton.

I completed my undergraduate degree in Music Education from Saginaw Valley State University. While I was there I was part of the Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Percussion Ensemble. I attended Western Michigan University for my Masters in Percussion Performance. At Western, I was a Graduate Assistant for both the Percussion Studio and also for the Athletic Band Department. My duties with Athletic Bands included working with their Marching Band, Basketball Bands, and Hockey Bands.

In my free time I enjoy running, reading, composing music, and spending time with my family. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with your child here at Hawkins Elementary. I look forward to having your child in my class and getting to know them better.
